escape

The Hotel Urban Madrid occupies a particularly central location on Carrera de San Jerónimo, just minutes from Puerta del Sol, the Congress of Deputies, and the Barrio de las Letras. Opened in 2004, the building designed by Carles Bassò and Mariano Martitegui stands out with contemporary architecture blending glass, steel, stone, and geometric lines. Its interior, with Art Deco influences, combines marble, precious woods, and sophisticated lighting, creating a distinctly urban identity amidst Madrid’s historic buildings.

The hotel offers 96 designer rooms and suites, ranging from 25 m² Superior rooms to 53 m² duplex Loft Suites. The accommodations feature noble materials, dark tones, contemporary lines, and a subdued atmosphere. Several categories include a separate living area or a duplex layout, while some suites can be connected to an additional room to accommodate families seeking more space.

The establishment’s identity largely rests on its private collection of tribal art, comprising approximately 200 pieces primarily from Papua New Guinea, nearly a hundred of which are displayed in the rooms and common areas. A museum room presents a permanent selection of original works, complemented by pieces of Egyptian and Oriental art. On the roof, a seasonal outdoor pool, a solarium, and a panoramic terrace offer a welcome respite above the center of Madrid. The hotel also has a small fitness room and a sauna, but does not feature a full spa.

Gastronomy is another major element of the experience with the restaurant CEBO, led by chefs Javier Sanz and Juan Sahuquillo. Its precise cuisine, built around product, seasonality, and mastered techniques, retains one Michelin star in the 2026 Guide. The restaurant seats only 22 guests, fostering a highly personalized service. The Glass Bar offers cocktails and sharing plates in a spectacular glass setting, while the summer terrace allows for lunch, dinner, or drinks on the rooftop.

Why choose this journey

Hotel Urban Madrid is an excellent choice for travelers seeking a central address with a much stronger personality than a traditional business hotel. Its location provides easy access to Puerta del Sol, the Prado Museum, the Thyssen-Bornemisza Museum, Retiro Park, and the lively streets of the Barrio de las Letras, while offering an intimate setting that maintains a calm atmosphere. Art lovers will appreciate the hotel's true museum dimension, with tribal and archaeological collections integrated into the rooms and common areas rather than merely used as decorative elements. Couples will enjoy the Glass Bar, the Michelin-starred CEBO restaurant, and the terrace with a pool, while business travelers will benefit from modular lounges and a strategic location near Madrid's institutions. Its balance of contemporary design, ancient art, Michelin-starred gastronomy, and a rooftop makes it a unique address, particularly suited for an elegant and cultural urban stay.
