Here, there are few skyscrapers: white architecture, mosques, forts, gardens and sea-facing districts shape an elegant city that retains a strong Omani identity. <\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Its heritage is a compelling reason to stay for several nights. The spectacular <strong>Sultan Qaboos Grand Mosque<\/strong>, the <strong>Royal Opera House<\/strong>, Al Alam Palace and the National Museum offer a window onto the country\u2019s architecture, history and culture. In Old Muscat and around Mutrah, historic forts, the corniche and the traditional souq create a far more timeworn, maritime atmosphere.  <\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Muscat is also a beach destination in its own right. <strong>Qurum Beach<\/strong>, the coves of Bandar Jissah and the coastlines around the capital make it easy to combine sightseeing and relaxation, with a particularly strong luxury and resort hotel offering. Sea excursions, beaches, mountains and desert landscapes are all easily accessible from the city. <\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Lastly, the capital is an excellent <strong>gateway to discovering Oman<\/strong>: its international airport makes it easy to start or end an itinerary to Nizwa, the Hajar Mountains, the wadis or the desert.
