Opened on March 15, 2006, the establishment faces the Kyoto National Museum and is situated in the immediate vicinity of the Sanjūsangen-dō temple. Its interior architecture, overseen by Takashi Sugimoto and the Super Potato studio, interprets traditional Japanese aesthetics through a contemporary language blending dark wood, stone, bamboo, light effects, and antique objects. A historic Japanese garden, complete with a pond and a weeping cherry tree, provides a true sense of urban retreat.

The hotel features 187 rooms and suites, all non-smoking, with interiors that combine fabrics from antique kimonos, paper lanterns, low-profile furniture, and natural tones. The bathrooms feature deep soaking tubs that reflect traditional Japanese bathing customs, while higher categories offer more space and views of the garden or the National Museum. Deluxe Balcony rooms reach 60 m² with a 10 m² balcony, and suites as well as certain premium categories are equipped with bathtubs made of Japanese cypress wood.

The RIRAKU Spa and Fitness includes nine treatment rooms and develops an approach combining Eastern traditions with Western techniques. Services offered include shiatsu, acupuncture, moxibustion, aromatherapy, and body treatments, with a cabin featuring a jet bath as well as a Japanese fermented wood thermal bath facility. The fitness center brings together cardiovascular equipment, weight machines, and free weights, complemented by a steam sauna for women and a dry sauna for men. A library overlooking the garden also offers a more contemplative space, particularly pleasant during the cherry blossom season.

Dining is primarily centered around cafe 33, an all-day venue for breakfast, lunch, and gourmet breaks, as well as trattoria sette, an Italian restaurant offering homemade pasta and wood-fired pizzas. The immersive Le Petit Chef experience combines a Kyoto-inspired menu with three-dimensional animations projected onto the table. The Touzan Bar, furnished with antique beams, books, and elements from traditional houses, highlights Japanese whiskies, local sakes, craft beers, and seasonal cocktails. A pastry shop and room service complete the offering.

The Hyatt Regency Kyoto is located in Higashiyama Shichijo, in a peaceful neighborhood surrounded by temples and major cultural sites.
