Turkey, Between the Bosphorus & the Aegean

Istanbul Stop 1
Bodrum Stop 2
Introduction

From Istanbul's Palaces to the Shores of the Aegean

Where Europe meets Asia, this itinerary reveals two profoundly different faces of Turkey. Istanbul opens the journey in a spectacular setting of mosques, Ottoman palaces, bazaars, historic quarters, and the lively shores of the Bosphorus, before Bodrum brings a more Mediterranean atmosphere, with whitewashed villages, turquoise coves, and the gentle way of life along the Aegean coast.

Once Constantinople, Istanbul bears the traces of several empires and offers an exceptional concentration of monuments. Hagia Sophia, the Blue Mosque, Topkapı Palace, and the Grand Bazaar tell the city's story, while the Bosphorus—a true bridge between two continents—allows you to discover Istanbul from the water. Several days on site also make it possible to venture beyond the most famous landmarks to explore the Asian shore, the Princes' Islands, or the surroundings of the metropolis.

The journey continues with a domestic flight to Bodrum, whose whitewashed houses and Aegean waters offer a complete change of scenery. Ancient Halicarnassus, the town combines classical heritage, marinas, beaches, and a peninsula dotted with elegant seaside villages. Bodrum also serves as an excellent base for discovering the major archaeological sites of western Turkey, notably Ephesus, without changing hotels.

With only two accommodations throughout the entire stay, this itinerary favors a comfortable pace while allowing you to explore a remarkable diversity of landscapes, histories, and experiences.

Istanbul — Between Two Continents

5 jours

Built on the shores of the Bosphorus, Istanbul is one of the few cities in the world to span two continents. Successive capital of the Roman, Byzantine, and Ottoman empires, it preserves an exceptional heritage where grand mosques, imperial palaces, historic markets, and vibrant neighborhoods compose a unique urban landscape.

The Sultanahmet district concentrates several major monuments, while Galata, Karaköy, and Beyoğlu reveal a more contemporary face. The Bosphorus, for its part, constitutes one of the city's guiding threads, lined with palaces, former Ottoman residences, and waterfront villages.

Five days also allow you to broaden the discovery beyond the historic center, with the Asian shore, the Princes' Islands, or an excursion to Bursa, while keeping Istanbul as the sole accommodation.

Bodrum — Between the Aegean Sea & Classical Heritage

5 jours

Nestled on the turquoise shores of the Aegean Sea, Bodrum offers an atmosphere radically different from Istanbul. Its whitewashed houses, bougainvillea, marina, and the hills of its peninsula evoke the Mediterranean world while retaining a profoundly Turkish identity.

Known in antiquity as Halicarnassus, the town preserves traces of a prestigious past. The Castle of St. Peter now dominates the bay near the site of the ancient Mausoleum of Halicarnassus, once considered one of the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World.

Around the town, the Bodrum peninsula reveals secluded coves, coastal villages, and elegant resorts such as Yalıkavak or Gümüşlük. A day at sea aboard a traditional boat allows you to discover its most peaceful waters, while an excursion to Ephesus offers the opportunity to visit one of the most impressive ancient sites in the Mediterranean.

Conclusion

Two Faces, One Turkey

Istanbul and Bodrum offer two almost opposite yet perfectly complementary approaches to Turkey. The former impresses with its history, monumental architecture, and the energy of the Bosphorus; the latter captivates with its Mediterranean landscapes, classical heritage, and the relaxed elegance of the Aegean coast.

The journey thus begins at the heart of several centuries of imperial history, among Hagia Sophia, Topkapı, and Istanbul's markets, before extending toward more contemporary districts, the Asian shore, and destinations accessible around the metropolis. A few days later, the setting gives way to turquoise waters, coves, and the whitewashed villages of the Bodrum peninsula.

The discovery of Ephesus also adds a major archaeological dimension to the stay, while days at sea and moments of relaxation naturally balance the many cultural visits at the beginning of the journey.

By deliberately limiting the itinerary to only two hotels, this circuit allows you to discover a rich and contrasting Turkey without multiplying transfers: the history and energy of Istanbul, then the light and gentleness of the Aegean Sea.
