The Hyatt Place Kyoto enjoys a particularly convenient location in central Kyoto, on the south-west corner of the Imperial Palace grounds. Opened in 2022, it is the city’s first Hyatt Place hotel. The property is directly connected to Marutamachi subway station on the Karasuma Line, and reaches Kyoto Station in around ten minutes. Nijō Castle, the Imperial Palace and several shopping districts are also within walking distance or a short subway ride away.

The hotel offers 239 rooms, including three suites, all larger than 25 m². Interiors favour clean lines, generous windows, natural tones and, in many categories, a lounge area with a sofa. Some rooms overlook an inner courtyard or garden, while Premium categories range from 35 to 36 m². The 47 m² suites feature a separate living room, two TVs, a refrigerator, a microwave and a kitchenette suited to longer stays.

Facilities are deliberately limited, but they effectively meet the needs of a leisure or business stay. The fitness centre, accessible 24 hours a day, includes cardio machines, free weights, yoga mats and functional training equipment. The hotel has neither a spa nor a pool, but offers free Wi-Fi, comfortable communal areas, accessible rooms and a bar-boutique open day and night. A waste-reduction approach also limits disposable items and plastic bottles in the rooms.

Dining focuses on The Kitchen, which serves a morning buffet of Western and Japanese dishes, breads, salads, fruit, fresh produce and curry prepared by the hotel. The Lobby Bar, open 24 hours a day, offers drinks, Kyoto-produced beers, wines, champagne and grab-and-go snacks to take back to the room or enjoy in the communal areas. The offering is simpler than that of a traditional luxury hotel, but it aligns with the practical, relaxed positioning of the Hyatt Place brand.

Its direct access to Marutamachi Station makes it easy to get to Kyoto Station, the city centre, shopping districts and the main sights, without having to rely on taxis. Rooms are modern, bright and relatively spacious for Kyoto, with several configurations that can accommodate three guests and a true suite equipped for longer stays. Families will appreciate the nearby subway, Twin rooms with a bathtub, and the option to request an extra bed for a child. Business travellers will benefit from the Wi-Fi, workspaces and round-the-clock fitness centre. The absence of a spa, pool and fine-dining restaurant clearly sets it apart from the other properties in the selection, but it generally allows for a more reasonable rate. It is therefore a reliable, functional base for travellers who prefer to devote their budget and time to discovering Kyoto rather than to hotel facilities.
