Hualalai stretches along approximately 800 meters of coastline in the ancient territory of Ka‘ūpūlehu, amidst black lava fields, tropical vegetation, and the Pacific. Unlike large hotel buildings, the accommodations are distributed among small, low-rise bungalows inspired by mid-20th century Hawaiian architecture, giving the estate a particularly residential feel.
The most singular experience is King’s Pond, an immense 6.8 million-liter natural aquarium carved into volcanic rock. Guests can snorkel among tropical fish and a spotted eagle ray, accompanied by marine biologists from the Kumu Kai Marine Center, who also develop educational programs focused on the Hawaiian ecosystem.
Golf enthusiasts have access to a Jack Nicklaus Signature championship course that winds through lava fields before returning to the ocean for the final holes. Hualalai Spa extends this connection with nature through its indoor-outdoor spaces, treatment hales, and rituals inspired by Hawaiian traditions such as lomi lomi.
